We are excited to announce the publication of our collaboration in the latest article "Addressing the global data imbalance of contaminants of emerging concern in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals".

One of the most pressing crises facing everyone, are the escalating impacts of chemical pollution. Addressing this challenge requires credible, concrete action and robust environmental standards, not shortcuts or superficial solutions. There is a significant data imbalance: most research on contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) comes from the Global North, while the Global South, where risks and pollutant profiles may differ, remains underrepresented.

This can lead to ineffective or even harmful policies for communities, highlighting the urgent need for more inclusive, context-specific research.

Our article emphasises the importance of involving Indigenous and local communities in CEC research, promoting equitable collaborations, fair funding, and context-sensitive methods. It also calls for challenging colonial and capitalist narratives that perpetuate data disparities and environmental injustices.
