Founder Dr. Yolanda Lopez-Maldonado dedicated two intensive weeks (1-12 Dec 2025) at the UNEP HQ in Nairobi, Kenya to engage in the Seventh Session of the Open-Ended Committee of Permanent Representatives at UNEP-WCMC headquarters, and later, the Seventh Session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA7), a pivotal forum for multilateral scientific cooperation, policy innovation, and harnessing Indigenous knowledge for climate resilience and nature action, such as in peatlands and coral reefs.
As a lead author for GEO-7, she also engaged at the launch of the Seventh Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7), a scientific global assessment addressing the urgent environmental challenges we face worldwide.
Likewise, she spoke at both Associated Events at UNEA-7: "The Water Continuum: Uniting Climate, Nature and People through the Flow of the Water Cycle", and "Special Dialogue: Recognition, Respect, and Protection of Indigenous Knowledge Systems, Science and Practices as Key Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet".
Lastly, an intervention at the High-Level MEAs Dialogue 1: "Signed, Sealed, Delivered?" - Turbocharging MEA Implementation through Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society Approaches was successfully delivered.
Financial support from both the Society of Native Nations, and UNEP is greatly appreciated!
